Im Jahre 1973 brachte erstmals ein Autohersteller ein Fahrzeug mit flexiblem Frontteil auf den Markt. Diese Entwicklung war durch die konsequente Forschung auf dem Gebiet der Polyurethane möglich geworden. Tausende von Personenkraftwagen mit diesem neuen Teil sind heutzutage schon auf den Straßen der Vereinigten Staaten unterwegs, viele werden auch in Europa noch folgen. In diesem Beitrag werden die ersten Ergebnisse eines umfangreichen Forschungsvorhabens über Unfall- und Instandsetzungsverhalten solcher Autos vorgestellt und eingehend erläutert.

Crash tests with a vehicle with flexible front section
In 1973, an automobile manufacturer introduced a vehicle with flexible front section. This development was made possible through concerted research efforts in the field of polyurethanes. Thousands of passenger cars with this new feature are already motoring on the highways of the United States and many will follow in Europe too. In this article, initial results obtained from a comprehensive research project covering the accident behaviour and repair properties of such cars are presented and discussed in detail.
