Das Antiblockiersystem (ABS) findet bei Motorrädern immer stärker Verbreitung und ist ab 2016 in der Europäischen Union Pflicht. Es trägt wesentlich dazu bei, Verkehrsunfälle zu vermeiden und kann dem Fahrer helfen, effektiver zu bremsen und in kritischen Fahrsituationen die Kontrolle über das Motorrad zu behalten. Viele internationale Studien belegen den großen Nutzen des Motorrad-ABS. Die Firma Bosch führte das ABS im Jahre 1978 für Pkw ein. 1984 begann man mit der Entwicklung von Antiblockiersystemen für Motorräder und präsentierte 1994 das erste Motorrad-ABS für eine Serienanwendung. Bis heute wurden über 750.000 Systeme verkauft und das ABS kontinuierlich in Größe und Gewicht reduziert. Kleine, leichte und intelligent gesteuerte Motorrad-ABS-Systeme eröffnen nun die technischen Möglichkeiten, auch kleinere Zweiräder mit diesem lebensrettenden Sicherheitssystem auszustatten und bilden die Basis für neue Fahrsicherheitssysteme beim motorisierten Zweirad.

Anti-lock braking systems (ABS) on motorcycles are a major contribution towards avoiding traffic accidents and enable riders to brake more effectively and to maintain control over the motorcycle in critical situations. In 2016 motorcycle ABS will become mandatory in the EU for new motorcycles with a cubic capacity of more than 125 cm³. In 1984, Bosch began developing anti-lock braking systems for motorcycles and presented the first motorcycle ABS for series application in 1995. Since then, 750,000 systems have been sold and the size and weight of the systems have been continuously reduced. Small, light and intelligently controlled motorcycle ABS systems open up the technical possibilities to equip even smaller motorcycles with this safety system.
