Leistungsmöglichkeit älterer Autofahrer

Beim Umgang des Menschen mit technischen Systemen treten gelegentlich Pannen auf. Auch im Straßenverkehr erweist sich der Mensch als die Schwachstelle dieses Systems. Weit über 95 % der Kollisionen werden durch den menschlichen Faktor verursacht. Will man die Handlungszuverlässigkeit erhöhen, muß man Leistungsanomalien, so weit es geht, vorsorglich ausmerzen und das Fehlverhalten als Bestandteil des Regelkreises Mensch-Maschine-Umgebung verstehen. Im Hinblick auf die prognostizierte gesellschaftliche Veralterung wird hier der erwartete Leistungsabfall des Durchschnittslenkers besprochen. Seine Kenntnis ist die Voraussetzung für gezielte Risikominderung durch die präventive Meidung von Leistungsanomalien.

The major part of traffic accidents is the result of the operator's limited reliability. Human errors are associated, according to different statistics, with more than 95% of all occurances. One the other hand, the probability of human errors increases if the task demands are too high, in relation to the individual resources. Vice versa, a driver's reliability increases, if the task requirements are adjusted to his own capabilities. This relationship is important in regard to traffic safety, especially because the future driver's capabilities are going to decrease, on the average, as a consequence of increased life expectancy. Decreased senso-motor capabilities with aging is not just the problem of an individual driver. The cumulation of eldery drivers, who operate their cars with decreased reliability, might influence the traffic as a system, i.e., not just additively but hyperadditively. In order to avoid this scenario of drastically increased accident probability there is no other realistic alternative than taking into account the decreased capabilities of eldery drivers, in order to construct adequate environmental condition, instead of just requiring traffic-adequate drivers. The influence of aging on senso-motor capabilities is described and the deriven consequences and suggestions for improving traffic safety are discussed.
