Die Europaeische Kommission hat in ihrem Verkehrsweissbuch vom Jahr 2001 das ambitionierte Ziel festgeschrieben, dass bis zum Jahr 2010 die Zahl der jaehrlich im Strassenverkehr in Europa Getoeteten von circa 40.000 auf 20.000 halbiert werden soll. Verfolgt man die bisherige tatsaechliche Entwicklung der Zahlen der Opfer von schweren Verkehrsunfaellen, sind Zweifel an der Zielerreichung der Kampagne berechtigt. Deshalb untersuchte die Dekra-Unfallforschung die aktuelle Entwicklung.

Is it still possible to achieve the target of halving the number of road traffic fatalities in Germany by 2010?
In its Transport White Paper of 2001, the European Commission set out its ambitious target to halve the number of road deaths in Europe from approximately 40,000 to 20,000 by the year 2010. If one considers the actual development so far in the number of deaths resulting from serious road accidents, it is doubtful whether the campaign will achieve its target. For that reason, Dekra Accident Research examined whether the target is still achievable.
